Several respected members of the R&S page have said that the Earth was created 'old' complete with artefacts and fossils?
but what would be the purpose of this?
Wouldn't it be more reasonable to say that the Earth is not 6000 years old but is in fact 8000 years old?
This would explain the dinosaurs and why men never saw them as they were around 2000 years before man and were in fact here to prepare roads and canals for man when he finally arrived 2000 years later...Thoughts?

Perhaps they were old dinosaurs and they did themselves in and expired, making all the roads and canals for us.

I give you credit for being a bit more thoughtful than the average believer of a story that provides no evidence at all. However, I think you know man walked on earth long before 8,000 years ago. Good question though.

Uh.... no. There is no proof or evidence to support that idea at all. It's just wishful thinking at best, but it's probably more accurate to say it is delusional fantasy.

Well, yes! Of course! Why didn't I think of that? Dinosaurs were here to prepare roads and canals. It seems so obvious now that you've mentioned it.

The opening words of Genesis tell us: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
Do these words of Genesis say that this happened about six thousand years ago?
No, it gives no time period. The beginning could therefore have been billions of years ago.

An omnipotent God could have created the Universe 5 minutes ago, you with all your memories intact and the photons from all the stars created en route.
But there is no doubt that this Universe looks EXACTLY AS IF it were 13.7 billion years old, the Earth and the Solar System look EXACTLY AS IF they were 4.7 billion years old, and the DNA of all living things look EXACTLY AS IF they had evolved by random mutation and natural selection.
So if, in fact, the Universe is younger than that, then the Creator wants us to think that it is old.

Respected by who? Either of these positions is totally opposed to reality, and therefore not deserving of any respect. Just shows how far from truth fundamentalist Protestantism has wandered.

There is a ridiculous claim among some Christians that dinosaur bones were put into the Earth by Satan to sew doubt about the existence of God. The other examples of Christian nonsense include: fossils are bones from animals killed in the great flood, fossils are hoaxes created by "atheist scientists", and/or that the dates given by science are incorrect. Note that all of these claims come from people who have minimal understanding of biology/paleontology. If you want an example, listen to PZ Myers destroy a Christian "scholar" who wrote an entire book attacking evolution while clearly completely ignorant of the topic.
