Why is it when I download a song from YouTube, the audio is distorted?

Is this a copyright measure? When I download songs uploaded by official artist accounts, the audio will kinda fade in and out slightly and it gets annoying. It sounds absolutely fine on the video, but not when I download it (it's not the bitrate or file type, I've tried mp3 and others, all the same).
