If atheism is not a religion then what is it?

Most atheists believe in evolution as the unrelenting truth and follow 'scientists' like preachers... Religion is not a group that believes in a deity... BUDDHISM doesn't and it is a religion....

Atheism is ignorance of the reality of God. Yes, most atheists are aware of the reality of biological evolution, as are most educated people, including most Christians.

It is a philosophy, but you can call it a religion if it makes you feel better. Though it won't make god real.

Buddhism is diverse.  Some Buddhist sects have more gods, demons, levels of heaven and hell, and ghosts than any other religion.  Other Buddhist sects have none.

Well, Buddhism isn't necessarily a religion.  Many Buddhists do believe in a deity or deities - but many don't. The existence of deities is not a question that Buddhism answers. But usually it is categorized as a religion.

Atheism is certainly a belief system, and in that sense it can be called a religion.  Atheists cannot prove there is no deity any more than theists can prove there is.

Atheists usually do not like Atheism to be called a religion because they associate religion with superstition. That is not an argument on principle though, it's an argument on the optics.

That's how I see it anyway.

Atheism is the lack of belief in the existence of any deity.  Period.   And Buddhism isn't a religion; it's a philosophy.

Belief in a religion that offers a proposition about a god is really self-made fantasy caused by foolishly  accepting indoctrination in believing a bible or some other god type book claiming a god is the maker of all things.  BTW such believers are obligated to pay for such useless non-information, not once but each week when they attend a church or any church function. Atheism is nothing more than non-acceptance of belief that a god exists, and rather acceptance of reality.

Define "religion," please.  Include things like Buddhism, not just your parents' Xtn snake-handling cult.

Most atheists, like believers, have no idea what evolution is and what it is not - our quality of education produces citizens that are mostly science illiterate. This is never more apparent than in the Christian community. It seems most of them also don't know what a religion is and what it is not.

Atheism is a belief held religiously by a minority, obviously a religion.
