In tennis, if you are the defending champion, you don't get any ATP points even if you win?

If you won the grand slam last year and you win again this year, that means you do not get any ATP points because you were the defending champion? I heard something that Novak didn't get any ATP points for the Aussie Open even though he won?

Actually, you DO get ATP points for winning a tournament.  The other side is that your ATP points from the PRIOR year drop off.  So if you finish in the same place as your did last year, the new ATP points offset the ones that drop off.
