Do you think the British press was racist and unfair towards Meghan Markle? If so, why?

She is half black and is a problem whether you like it or not.  Its like a plantation owner daughter marries an ex slave.

I have a feeling that in her case, perhaps there was no smoke without fire.    She came to this country and married into the Royal Family and then it seems set about altering the status quo.  She was welcomed by the RF (mostly) and members of the public who wanted to see Harry happy.   It was only after a while that perhaps the true Meghan revealed herself.   And the gutter press, whose aim is always to sell their rubbish, set about finding all the smut they could, and if they couldn't, made a lot of it up.   Mix race was something that could be used.

Had Haz not been so paranoid and Meghan more able to cope with the negative, they might still be in the UK - much as I can't help going back always, to the plan.   If they wanted out of the country and the Royal Family, fair enough, but why end up in LA of all places?

It's recently been suggested HM had a plan for them, given how apparently unhappy they were and that was to go somewhere to include Africa.   Had they only waited.   But hot-headed Harry just acted, pushed by Meghan.   So now they have to live with their decision.

Not willing to accept the role of the royal family.  The pomp and the traditions...and ceremonies.

Not at all. There's no evidence of it.

It's all race baiting - She grew up privileged and still is privileged.

The British tabloid media staff live to foment conflict and scandal and to make much of it up if it doesn't actually exist. As one of their editors said, "Someone has to be up and someone has to be down".  When the Duchess of Sussex came along, the tabloids switched from bashing the Duchess of Cambridge to looking for anything and everything they could use in the service of attacks, innuendo, sneering and snickering  -- you name it -- against the former.

This is simply how they operate. And they admit it.

Was this race-based behavior?  No, I don't think so, except that social media were teeming  with racial attacks, and the tabloids know that a lot of their more down-market readers are racists, bigots, and xenophobes. So, they were going to react positively to attacks on a biracial American, on top of the frequent tendency of the readers simply to resent anyone who married into their royal family.  In other words, the tabloids took advantage of existing racial hostility.

Was it unfair?  Absolutely. They didn't care, of course. Their business is to make money any way they can. They don't really mind how they do it.

None of it was new, really.  Every woman who marries into a royal family is subjected to this sort of thing to some extent.  As I said, the Duchess of Cambridge was under fire for years.  She just didn't have the option of thumbing her nose at the tabloids, turning their back on them, and decamping to another country.

And why not move to LA?  It's her hometown, after all, where her mother lives.

Some media were racist and unfair towards Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, by writing biased, stereo-typed views about her supposed rearing, family, mother's background,(saying that Ragland was an ex-convict when she was never arrested or incarcerated), based on her being mixed-race. All internet-based media that allows comments without weeding out the racist, vile posts were and still are unfair.

Not controlling biased views based on Western,(White), dominance, reposting unsubstantiated gossip, not fact-checking....all of these make poor reporting, not fair or accurate reporting...

No I don't think the press were, but they were intrusive and trying to rake up stuff about her past. Social media was disgustingly racist though.
