Was/is polio a contagious disease, person to person?
- The First DragonLv 72 months ago
Yes, it is contagious by the fecal-oral route. Meaning, if somebody with polio doesn't wash their hands, they can pass it to others. If the patient is preparing food, and doesn't wash hands first, it can get into the food. It can get on cups and plates and utensils. The oral-oral route is also possible.
It is not airborne.

Polio was caused by a highly contagious virus that a world wide vaccination program has now nearly eliminated.

yes.. but Polio is a range of illnesses, from one end it cause Flu-like symptoms but at the other end is paralysis.. thanks to the global Polio vaccination programs, the Polio is on the run and the WHO had predicted that we will eradicate the Polio by 2024 if we keep up the vaccination program..
