Why does my basset hound get so fat ?

because you over feeding the dog with alot junkies foods . plus you should only feed your dog in the morning and scoop dried dog food 1 cup of dried food then 1  1/2 cup of dried food every morning. if the dog isnt hungry yet still leave the dog food in the bowl. then always give fresh water every day for your dog to drink of . then on lunch time  you can just give him or her small 2 pieces of doggy treat or 1 treat bone that the dog can chew on and play with .if the basset hound just a puppy if not then just give 1 treat . then make sure you take the dog outside to go the restroom after eating. and always take the dog out for exericse everyday to stay in healthy and good shape. if you dont do that your dog can end up having hard time breathing and have hard time walking or running. the dog need to get plenty of exerisce to loose fat off. as for dinner time you just give dried food 1 cup of dried food. dont over fed and dont over feeding your dog doggy treats because the dog wont eat own food .  dont feed no tables foods to the dog bad to their health , some human foods are toxis to the dog health to make them became over weight and be came unhealthy , get sick and will stop the dog not to eat own food. basset hound suppose be weight about 40-60 pounds , theyre life span is 10-12 years. if you want to take care of your dog better then can put on stricit diet but make sure your dog gets alot of plenty exericse everyday to stay healthy . there are some home made diet recipes that you can make at home for your dog to eat if you want do dog diet food . can go online  pinterest  .com there you can find some thing. some times on google they can help you find some recipes too. 

basset hounds - are used to do outdoor  sports  such as hunting games means they like to chase after small rats and mices and mouse ,such as rabbits , and hares .

In case remotely not, many people mistake a well-spring ribcage, which the breed should have, for being fat.   If you can feel the ribs but not see them, he's probably fine.   Why too fat - because YOU are overfeeding.   Including treats.
