    Do travel agents still exist?

You only get paid for your work after the person books the trip with you  and takes the trip.  You get paid a month after.  If they book the trip with you and then cancel, all the time your spent helping them is UNPAID.  If they book the trip and their credit card is declined you do not get paid.

If they call you and talk to you for an hour and you give them the price estimate and they hang up and book it themselves...you do not get paid.

If you are lucky and you finally book a client who is spending $8,500 on a vacation...you will get a 2% commission as your pay.  That is $170.00  But you do not get it until a month after the vacation is over, you have to pay taxes on it AND you will be lucky to get one of those a month.

YES.  Why call a home based travel agent when you can book the exact same trip, by yourself for less?

Not a scam, but not a career with any future. Travel agents are like blacksmiths-they had a purpose at one point in time, but the world has moved on and now it’s a very niche job.

There is a difference between something being a scam (illegal) and something being unsuccessful.

When was the last time YOU used a travel agent?    I think it was about 1995 for me.
