We still use degrees to measure an ANGLE.  (I don't think we can measure angels .. we cannot even SEE them let alone measure them).

It started in Babylon, when the Jews grafted on huge sections of Mesopotamian myth systems to their beliefs.

It started with the bible. There are 10 separate degrees for angels. They range from New angels that have just recently earned their wings and are still on probation, all the way up to the archangels who have been angel-ing for eons.

Degrees as a unit of measurement have been used for centuries to describe angles. It's difficult to apply it to measuring angels because they are fictitious beings that are hard to grab in order to measure them.
