What's to purpose of showing kids children movies in schools?

Is it to give the children a little bit of fun/a break from school work?

Or is the real reason something like....-A way to kill time cause they're ahead of schedule?-A way to introduce potential life lessons to children from these stories?-A way to observe the children and see how well they can sit still and stay quiet?

Surly they all could be factors, but what's the MAIN reason? Is it for the children? For the teachers? Or is the school trying to do something here? I'm just curious.

    All students are different.

To cater to the learning requirements of various students, different methodologies are adopted.

Watching movie involves most senses, enabling children to learn better.

It's more likely to give the teachers a break and an attempt to improve morale.  A good teacher however would turn it into a lesson.  A good teacher with a bit of creativity can turn anything into a lesson.  At the very least there should be some kind of discussion before and after the movie (though some educators are too lazy to do even that).  However there are plenty of good teachers out there who do indeed do more than just glorified daycare.
