turn a simile to a metaphor?

Okay so I have an English assignment where I can't use any similes in this poem. But like I can't compare the two things without using like or as so I need help translating these into metaphors:

You swallow the guilt of your merciless killings whole, like the owl.

You betray your own kind, like the owl.

Like the owl, you were once a symbol of victory. However, also like owl, you are a symbol of death.
