Which word is correct?
He thought none of the stores sold plywood, then his neighbor told him that one of them had (it / some).

Both are fine, but I would say ''.... had some''
because 'plywood' is a general term for a 'type of material'.
It's not a specific object, in which case I would use ''.... had it''.

The obvious answer is "One of them did".
He thought none of them sold plywood, then he was told that one of them did.

The correct word is 'it'.
He thought none of the stores sold plywood, then his neighbor told him that one of them had it, so he went to the store and bought some.
