Who is correct?

Your friend wants to write the equation of a quadratic function that has zeros at -1/3 and 5/3 . They want to use the binomials (3x+1) and (3x-5). You insist that they must use the binomials ( x+1/3)and (x-5/3) . Who is correct?

both answers would work, but the first choice (your friend's) is a better option as it is standard.  Usually if fractions are in an equation, the first step is to eliminate them by multiplying through by the common denominator.  If you do that here (multiply by 3 on 'your choice'), you will get the first set anyway.  So, while you are not wrong, you are not quite correct.
